I think it may just be a calibration error somewhere, maybe the V200 got knocked around in some fashion. You should get better scans you'll need to stick with it awhile before you start to get the hang of how you want it to look.

My first scanner was an Epson 3000 series from the early 2000's and it took me a month to get it all figured out. Do you think the results will be any better or worse than what I'm getting? I'm struggling to see any examples online.

bonus, I guess?Īnyway, I'm itching to try this tonight. I was talking about this at work and someone just pulled an Epson V370 out of the cupboard and handed it to me. I don't know what the market is like for those things right now, but keep looking on your local ads. That's about the US equivalent that I spent a few years ago on my Epson v500. If I had £100 to spend, what scanner would you guys recommend? I picked up the V200 because it was cheap and it had a specialised 35mm scanning mode. If I had £100 to spend, what scanner would you guys recommend? Should I spend more? I'd like to scan at 2400 DPi at a minimum but really I need even scans. Sorry, I meant I do not have any "enhancements" checked in the scanner software. Personally, I would work on your own scans with that scanner and then you can decide on a higher end model down the road.Īnd if you decide to go the GIMP route with your post processing, you might consider the Partha build that contains a lot of goodies already baked into the cake. They're likely applying some sharpening to their scans. Then take those and fix them in GIMP or Irfanview 56 months agoĪnd for perspective, remember that you're comparing a lower-end consumer scanner to whatever a commercial lab is using, however cheapo it might be. You have to really add a lot of sharpening in post processing. My Epson V600 also have a very soft focus when I scan without adjustments during the scan. I do not have any image adjustments active at all, just a straight scan. Thanks, I got the scanner for £20 and didn't see any bad results based on 35mm photographs people have taken with this same scanner on here so pulled the trigger, but yeah I just seem to be getting incredibly soft results. Read some of the other threads here to get some ideas on scanning with a flatbed.

Scan your negatives without any adjustments then in post processing software add everything to your liking including sharpness. Well first of all I would not recommend the V200 but now that you have it here is what to do. Is there any recommendation you guys can give me RE adjusting the focus on this scanner or is this pretty much what I've bought and it can't get better? I've seen examples of people scanning 35mm on this scanner and it looked pretty good! In the example here, you can see the image from the cheapo lab (which maxes out at 2MP) is much sharper and cleaner than the one from the scanner. I have tried adjusting the height of the 35mm film holder and played around with lots of the settings but I just can't seem to get an acceptable image from the scanner. Last edited by rbmorse August 28th, 2014 at 04:12 AM.I recently purchased a V200 and am not happy with the scans I get from it, the images appear to be ever so slightly soft, a bit out of focus.
